News / 11 August 2017 - Soft Relaunch and Revamp
« on: August 11, 2017, 04:58:09 PM »
Team,

First let me start off with an apology for my lengthy AWOL. Life came at me fast and I was unfortunately forced to deal with it. I am back now, and ready to keep this board going. However, that being said, I do want to recognize that I cannot do it all alone. Power was concentrated too heavily in my hands and it left others with no way to manage, help, or grow the site in my absence.

What is being done to fix that? Well, effectively immediately Mim has been given full access to the site's backend. This includes the database, FTP server, and everything she would need to help run the board 100% fully.

This means we will no longer be moving sites or boards, meaning we no longer need to worry about exporting characters or stories. But, we will be doing a soft relaunch of the site effective this Saturday, August 12th.

Relaunch FAQ
Q. What will be the impact of the relaunch?
A. During the day on 12 August and perhaps into Sunday, 13 August the board may be in maintenance mode while Mim and myself work on cleaning up the boards.

Q. Will we lose characters or story ideas?
A. No. Characters are not being relaunched. The board plot, however, is being archived with smaller missions that may lead to a larger plot down the road taking its place.

Q. What if I want to keep a plot that takes place during Operation Mercy going?
A. We can handle these on a case by case basis, but rest assured no story will be left behind.

The goal is to get the board easier to run, write on, and engage with avoiding the mistakes and missteps that occurred during Urgent Mercy (essentially we got too big, too fast). We would love to have you come back and write with us again, if you so choose.

See you down range.

Respectfully,

E.J. and the Staff

May 2017

South Africa has put together a generous aid package, with help from the Commonwealth of Nations and United Nations, to help the failing Zimbabwe, with the hope that if it comes from South Africa, the powers that be in Hare will accept it. But the South African Parliament has tied a request; they want Zimbabwe to start taking steps to improving their human rights situation. They are not specifying how or when, just that something needs to go forward.

And the spark for the power keg is provided. Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's dictator, has decried the terms as an effort by South Africa to impose the will of "imperialist powers" onto the people of Zimbabwe. As a good faith measure, South Africa authorized work on a railway line on the border to start improving the rails, footing the bill entirely. However, the work stopped within a few weeks, after armed personnel harassed work crews. There were disputes if they were armed militia or Zimbabwe military, but to be on the safe side, the South African Army was mobilized.

The 44th Parachute Regiment was moved to Musina, in the Musina Nature Reserve, but this only served to inflame issues. When work was resumed, the work crews were fired upon, with several civilians killed. 3rd Parachute Battalion scrambled troops to respond, and a skirmish broke out on the bridge spanning the Limpopo River. Unfortunately, this only served to muddle issues with the situation, with the Zimbabwean delegates going to the UN with reports of the South Africans starting the shooting.

However, while the media was tangled up with the blame game, especially with the issues facing President Jacob Zuma, a new angle appeared. A truck was stopped in a routine border check in Zambia, where it was found full of munitions bound for Zimbabwe. The driver committed suicide while in custody, but the weapons were seized regardless.

With this, President Zuma appealed to the Commonwealth of Nations for support to contain the situation. Military support has been considered, but conflicts in South America brewing, as well as several members being unwilling to resort to invasion. The South African delegation agreed to that much, but did accept that something had to be done, especially with growing concerns that the Zimbabwean government is not doing this on their own. Special Operations and Intelligence operations have been approved, and American involvement is being considered.

Recruitment Drives (Want Ads) / E.J.'s Most Wanted
« on: May 17, 2017, 10:56:40 PM »
Role(s) requested: I currently play team leaders of a CAG (1st SFOD-DELTA) element and a DevGru (SEAL Team 6) element. I also play a CIA SAD/SOG Paramilitary Operations Officer (super spook, lol) that need their teams filled by players. Below you can find a listing, in no particular order.

I've also included a brief overview of the leaders of each team, so you can understand who your character would be working with.

CAG: "C" Squadron - "A" Troop (Assault),  AFO Team "Crusader" is led by James "Redneck" Hendricks (played by Tom Hardy) - aka Sully (after his middle name of Sullivan). Quiet while he gets to know you, he is a boisterous (but not obnoxious) in social situations. He has a quick wit and an even quicker temper. His anger can cloud his judgement, but has never seriously impeded him while in a dire situation. He enjoys a good joke and likes to blow off steam, so is known to be a practical joker. If you get on his good side he's an intensely loyal friend, but it's best not to get on his bad side. He keeps his friends close, and his enemies within shooting distance.

Ryan "Vegas" Brown

Vegas is the team's JTAC (joint tactical air controller) and radio / comms specialist. He's an FNG, and is still fitting in with the team overall. A former US Army soldier with the 101st Airborne, Vegas often gets shit for only being Ranger tabbed, not having served in an official Ranger element (all in good fun, of course). He's the team's comic relief, and is a highly superstitious man.

Elias "Mother" Caruso
Elias serves as the medical specialist/field medic for the team. A former Special Forces shooter, Elias has been with the team as long as James has. He's a smart man, and his extensive medical and trauma expertise is an invaluable asset to the team. As the medic, he's often found making sure the rest of the team are taking care of themselves - thus his nickname of Mother.

Robert "Castle" Lincoln
Castle is the team's special operations engineer. He specializes in both field demolitions as well as field construction. His father was a builder by trade, so Castle learned how to construct from an early age. Robert is a relatively simple character as far as plots go, but he's a major part of the team in terms of what he brings to the table.

CIA SAD: The SAD field team is led by Henry Thompson (played by Josh Brolin) - Hank is quiet, often found in the corner of the room observing and analyzing. When he speaks, he has a point and he gets to it. He is intelligent, but not overly so. He has a dry sense of humor, and often times jokes with sarcasm. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty, or do bad things for a good cause.

Kathleen "Kate" LeDoux
Kate is from New Orleans, her family having lived in that area for generations. She spent most of her childhood, though, in the French countryside with her grandmother. A former FBI field agent specializing in forensics, she acts as Hank's right hand in the field and provides him with valuable insights based upon her previous experience. I currently need her for a plot involving illegal arms deals and human trafficking.

DevGru: Red Squadron, Fireteam Bravo / AFO "Barracuda" is led by Jack "Dingo" Stephens (played by Chris Pratt) - A bit of a joker with a heart of gold. He's a practical joker, heart breaker, and intense friend. Jack tends to play it casual when he's getting to know someone, cautiously assessing if they meet his criteria for friendship. Under pressure, he tends to be laser focused and can sometimes become obsessive over details. A planner and a thinker, he can often be found jotting things down in a notebook for future reference.

Buckley "Buck" Jamison

Buck is part of the assault team and the team's breaching expert. He's from the south (I will leave the exact location up to you, I had played him as a Texan) and a bit of a hot head. He's fiercely loyal, but tends to be a bit of an outsider with the current team. Big plot points here for anyone looking to play a good ol' boy who loves to shoot shit. heh.

William "Bull" McKenzie

Bull is also on the assault team and is the team's medical expert. He's quiet, almost zen, and only speaks when he has a point to say. He's the team's conscience, voice of wisdom, and often times counselor. He and Jack sometimes conflict due to Jack's nature of being a bit less pragmatic.

Daniel "Deuce" Foster
Deuce and Jack came through BUD/S together, but have just recently been assigned to the same DevGru element. Deuce is a driven man, and often times can be found pushing his team to excel. He's the team's heavy gunner, and is fond of his role using the M60E4, lovingly referred to as 'the pig'. Personality wise, he's got problems with authority outside of his respected circle.

Charles "Viper" Denehy
Charles is easily the most important role on this list for DevGru, as he acts as Jack's assistant team leader. An older man than Jack, Viper has been in the SEALs for most of his career. A legacy hold over from earlier times, he's highly experienced and a Senior Special Operations Chief. He's sort of the team's battlefield mentor, and Jack relies on Viper heavily for advice and guidance.

    NEWS BREAK
The news from South America is not good. Our sources within the country tell us that the Red Command, backed by numerous other cartel leaders in the region have taken full control of the Argentine military and police.

To complicate matters, Venezuela is selling arms and weapons they recently received from Russia to the narcostate. The US and her NATO allies have declared the region a clear and present danger, and the US President is meeting congress today to request authorization for a full scale military invasion of Argentina, the first such action by American forces in the region since Panama.

    May 2017

Over a month ago, a coup took place in Argentina. The destabilization of the country led to a power vacuum that was filled by the Comando Vermelho, or Red Command, from neighboring Brazil. While the President and his cabinet were able to escape, the Red Command has declared Argentina their territory and set up operations.

The US, UK, and other NATO allies had hoped using special operations would soften the regime and allow for normalcy to occur. This has not happened. With the revelation of how large the scale of this web of narcoterror is, the US has no option other than to invade and restore stability by force.

    I love it!

    10
My suggestion is a diversion. Have either the DevGru team or someone else from Falklands roll in on the river, light some positions up and draw out some of the QRF elements from the complex, giving the teams on the ground a better chance?

There's also the fact that the Argetine SOFG dudes on the cartel payroll are in the area as well.
